Sculpture for the Earth

Sculpture for the Earth, 1974

Ubbeboda, Sweden

Here, Murak dug a hole by hand for 30 days and transferred all the earth she removed into a mound next to the hole. The depth measured 162 cm, Murak’s height, and following its completion, she sowed both mound and the hole with cress seeds. Unfortunately, the only lasting documentation of this work were a few photos. The actual piece was destroyed three days after its creation by a bulldozer following the orders from the city.
