In her Path (moments) series, Karhu photographs the same walking route she takes from her home throughout three months and compiles all the photos together to form the given season they were taken in.
She then uses a layering technique to capture one whole season in one
single image. However, the images in this series retain the feeling of
the Impressionist era; the feel of Monet, the colors of Renoir, and the
tones of Turner are all present. Unlike other artists who utilize
photographic layering, occasionally Karhu inserts herself within the act
of taking the photo, so that we see her as a blur, almost ghostly, yet
the color of her coat and hat establishes her presence within the image.
Her photographs become an abstraction into another place, a passage
that alters reality by blurring the boarders between one moment and the
next one.
