In memory of Przemyslaw Kwiek

In memory of Przemyslaw Kwiek

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Przemysław Kwiek on November 27, 2024. He passed away peacefully at his home in Łomianki.

Przemysław Kwiek was a groundbreaking artist whose work consistently challenged the boundaries of art. Most of his significant works were created in collaboration with Zofia Kulik as the duo KwieKulik, active from 1971 to 1987, producing numerous politically charged performances and artistic demonstrations documented through film and photography in response to rejection by both the regime and the Polish neo-avant-garde.

In 1972, they established an independent gallery in their home, the Studio of Activities, Documentation, and Propagation (PDDiU), hosting lectures, exhibitions, and documenting the artistic life of 1970s and 1980s Poland. They created one of Poland's most unique archives, now a permanent installation at the newly built Modern Art Museum (MSN) in Warsaw.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all the artists who had the honor of participating in his artistic endeavors.
